Russell Barnett is a dedicated resident of Caroline, Alberta, where he has made his home for the past three years, having resided in Alberta since 1997. With a 42-year career beginning in 1983, Russell has worked across the world as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and Registered Industrial Accountant (RIA), bringing extensive expertise in public sector operations, other industries such as oil and gas, construction, distribution, and financial management.
Over his global career, he has assisted numerous municipalities and organizations, including the City of Red Deer, Strathcona County, City of Calgary, and City of Lethbridge in Alberta, among others worldwide—in streamlining processes, improving efficiency, and enhancing administrative practices. His deep understanding of how public administrations function, combined with the knowledge to ask the right questions and the persistence to pursue the answers, positions him to effectively advocate for transparent and accountable governance in Clearwater County.
An active outdoors enthusiast, Russell values the natural beauty of Alberta’s foothills and is committed to preserving the rural lifestyle that defines the region. His involvement in local issues began shortly after retirement when he identified concerns with financial transparency in Caroline and opposed a proposed solar project that he believed would harm the community.
Motivated by a desire to ensure that residents of Caroline and surrounding areas in Division 6 have a. strong, informed voice at the council table, Russell is running for Councillor in the 2025 municipal election. With no other distractions, he is fully dedicated to serving the community and fostering sustainable growth that benefits all residents. Russell encourages everyone to vote on October 20, 2025.
